Bomb threats made to Environment Ministers office in Tipperary
The Environment Minister Alan Kelly has branded bomb threats made in a phone-call to his Tipperary office “shocking, appalling and disgraceful”.
Shortly after 9 o’clock this morning a female member of staff at the Minister’s Nenagh office took a call from a woman.
It’s alleged the woman was abusive from the outset and made several threats regarding bombs and locations.
Minister Kelly and his staff have given detailed statements about the incident to Gardai in Nenagh and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile Rural Affairs Minister Ann Phelan has hit out at what she describes as the ‘mob mentality’ that took over a protest on water charges at the weekend.
Tanaiste Joan Burton was effectively trapped in her car for over 2 hours and was hit by a water balloon at the Jobstown demonstration.
She was on her way to a conferring ceremony for IT Carlow where up to 60 students of the Institute were graduating in Tallaght.
Anti Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy – who took part in the demonstration – says the Tánaiste was “hamming it up” and looking to play the victim.
But Minister Phelan says it was personalised and intimidatory.
