Carlow and Kilkenny county winners at Blas na hÉireann say they’re “thrilled” with the recognition

12 food producers from across the two counties were represented at the event

Local Blas na hÉireann winners say they’re thrilled with the recognition.

12 producers from across Carlow and Kilkenny were represented in the national food awards between them picking up a raft of bronze, silver and gold accolades.

James Murphy is fourth generation at family business Murphy Craft Butchers in Tullow which came out tops for Carlow.

He’s been telling KCLR News; “Our business was founded back in 1909 by my great-grandfather Laurence Murphy, we were thrilled to win a gold award for our traditional spiced beef and we were further recognised winning the best in Carlow award and the third major award we picked up was the Irish butchers award”.

While the main Kilkenny winner was Lekker Food Collection which offers a blend of African and French cuisine – Ashika Kuar of the Thomastown outlet says; “As a food producer Blas has helped us to be recognised for its quality, the support we receive over the year from the mentors is unbelievable, it is a huge motivator and it drives us to achieve more, we’d like to say thank you to Blas and all its team and the mentors and of course to all of our customers who are coming in every day to support us”.
