The IFA wants an adequate budget in CAP that’s ring-fenced for production.
The organisation says the Common Agriculture Policy needs to reward the active farmer who produces the food.
Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon has announced a one week extension to the public consultation on the future of CAP until next Friday.
Carlow native and Deputy President of the Irish Farmers’ Association, Alice Doyle, is advising farmers to have their say
“We’d encourage all farmers to fill in this survey now that they have the week’s extension because it’s very important that the Minister is aware of people’s views, particularly farmers’ views, around CAP.”
“It’s very important to read each of the 10 questions. Consider them very carefully before you answer them. You have to answer one, two, three in most of them. So giving priority is very important. So I would say read it very carefully.”
“Look at your own situation. Look at where farming is going and the future of farming and what you want from CAP and finish it accordingly.
“The IFA will be filling in its own full submission, as well, on behalf of farmers.”
