The principal of a local primary school at the centre of a bomb scare yesterday has said it was a “very frightening experience”.
At 10 o’clock yesterday morning the secretary of Askea Girls National School received an anonymous call alerting them that there was a bomb at the school.
The school’s principal, Geralyn Costello, told KCLR News this morning that teachers were then alerted and the children were evacuated from the school.
They didn’t tell the pupils of the threat but instead treated it as a normal fire drill.
The children were taken to the track at St Laurence O’Toole’s and their parents were told by text that they were to be collected and that the school would be closed for the rest of the day.
Ms Costello says they made sure not to create a panic despite the teachers being very shaken.
Afterwards it emerged that a number of other schools around the country had received similar threats.
The local school say that after a dramatic day yesterday, everything is now back to normal this morning.
