Carlow and Kilkenny’s Dog Shelter is still closed to the public, after works that started in early December went on longer than expected.
Meanwhile, it’s still not known who’ll run the service when the ISPCA pull out. In October of last year it was announced that the ISPCA would no longer be running the dog shelter for Carlow/Kilkenny come the end of February 2017.
This will be the first time that the local pound won’t be run by the animal charity.
They told Kilkenny and Carlow’s County Councils that they made a strategic decision to withdraw their services.
Tenders to take over the running of the service are still being accepted and it’s hoped that the appropriate authority will be selected in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, works that were due to be finished up at the shelter before Christmas are still ongoing.
They’re in the process of constructing five extra dog kennels, a fenced agility area and also carrying out improvements to the isolation kennel area and relocating the visitors’ centre.
Anyone wishing to visit is asked to ring ahead.
It’s expected that the works will be completed in February.
