Carlow’s Hanover Park is set to get a major upgrade.
Yesterday’s meeting of the town’s councillors heard that €125,000 in funding has been granted for the amenity.
The money, part of a national Outdoor Infrastructure Scheme, will see significant improvements to walkways and lighting within the park.
Cllr Fintan Phelan says the changes are long overdue.
“This funding is going to replace and upgrade the existing paths, public lighting and bandstands within the park, so it’s very welcome news” he told KCLR. “This is a park that’s right in the centre of Carlow town, and for many years it’s been neglected. I think this is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that Hanover Park is more accessible.”
Hanover Park isn’t the only spot to benefit from this Outdoor Infrastructure Scheme, however.
€60,000 has also been allocated to ensure more benches are installed in parks throughout Carlow.
“There was additional funding allocated under the Outdoor Infrastructure Scheme specifically for seating. The first aspect is seating in the Carlow Skate Park, and there’s been an allowance made for that under our funding” Cllr Phelan explains. “Seating will also then be installed along walking trails across not just Carlow town, but County Carlow.”
