Walsh Whiskey Distillery in Royal Oak is set to feature heavily in a new tourism strategy being launched this week.
The new strategy is aimed at promoting Ireland as a whiskey tourism destination for visitors across the world. Walsh Whiskey hopes to attract 75,000 visitors each year to their new €25m euro facility at Royal Oak, which opened earlier this year.
Ireland is hoping to take on Scotland as the tourist destination for whiskey distilling.
The new Whiskey tourism strategy being launched this week has National and Local government support, and is targetting local tourism in particular.
Investment by new Irish whiskey brands between now and 2020 is expected to be €360million with production expected to rise by 41 percent.
Ireland had 653,000 visitors to the five key whiskey visitor centres and Bernard Walsh says the whiskey sector is only finding its feet.
