Oscar nominations are becoming a habit for Cartoon Saloon as Late Afternoon has made the 2019 Academy Awards shortlist.
We’ve known for some time they were under consideration, the long list for Animated Short feature announced late 2018.
The studio welcomed their fourth Academy Award nomination via Facebook on Tuesday afternoon.
“Holy moly – we are over the moon to be nominated, huge thank you to @TheAcademy!”, began a short statement on Facebook.
“It’s been an amazing journey and we couldn’t of done it without the support from the crew here in Cartoon Saloon, Screen Ireland and RTE.”
“Thank you to the whole team, we are so excited to be heading to the Oscars but tonight we’re going to celebrate with the crew!”
Cartoon Saloon’s Louise Bagnall will be on The Way It Is this evening after 5.30pm to talk about Late Afternoon and the Oscar nomination.
They’ll go up against Animal Behaviour, Bao, One Small Step and Weekends for the top honour.

Previous nominations
Cartoon Saloon have been to the Oscars on three previous occasions with founders Tomm Moore, Paul Young and Nora Twomey all members of the Academy.
Secret Of Kells (2010), Song Of The Sea (2015) and The Breadwinner (2018) saw nominations for Best Animated Feature.
Could the fourth time be the charm?
We’ll find out with the winners announced at the 91st Academy Awards on Sunday 24 February.
No joy for Saoirse Ronan
There had been hope that Saoirse Ronan would also see a fourth Oscar nomination for her role in Mary Queen of Scots. While she misses out on the Best Actress nod, the film is nominated for Makeup & Hairstyling and Best Costume Design.
