CK United have announced their first two signings ahead of the club’s inaugural FAI National League campaign.
The newly-formed club has secured the services of striker Emmet Nugent, who joins after impressing in the Kilkenny District League with Fort Rangers. Nugent has also previously played in the League of Ireland First Division with Wexford, bringing valuable experience to the squad.
The frontman has been handed the prestigious number nine jersey as CK United continue to build their squad for the historic season ahead.
The club has also confirmed the signing of Shane Barnes from New Oak. Like Nugent, Barnes has experience with Wexford, with the pair previously lining out together before returning to local football.
Off the pitch, work is continuing at Buckley Park, where renovations are underway ahead of the club’s first home fixtures in the national competition.
CK United already know the challenge that awaits them after being drawn in a group with Killarney Celtic, Newbridge Town, UCC and Villa FC.
The inaugural 2026 competition will feature 15 founding clubs divided into three groups of five, with teams playing each other home and away. Only the three group winners and the best runner-up will progress to the semi-finals, making every point crucial in the race for a place in the knockout stages.
