There are more questions that still need to be answered about the cost of the Central Access Scheme, according to a local Councillor.
The project was again discussed at this week’s meeting of Kilkenny County Council where council members say an extra €5m is being borrow to pay the extra costs..
The Council have told KCLR today that an extra €200,000 was needed to cover legal costs, €300,000 for archaeology work and €2.2m to cover the contractors costs after the protests delayed works.
Councillor Malcolm Noonan, who has always been opposed to the scheme, says the costs have doubled over the last few years.
Meanwhile, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Matt Doran says the Central Access Scheme will provide value for money.
He says he’d hoped the questioning of the need for and cost of the bridge was behind them.
