An extension to the current disruptive flood defence works on the local train line has been agreed by Iarnróid Éireann and Waterford city and county council.
The bid to protect the stretch which is prone to flooding in Waterford got underway last August, pausing for the Christmas and New Year, but since resumed.
Now an additional two weeks has been sought to allow contractors move to the next stage with the 9th of April slated as the date after which full midweek services will see a return.
A statement outlined that works comprising a combination of sheet piled walls, impermeable trenches and an extensive drainage network with two associated pumping stations will take place from 8am to 2:30pm Mondays to Thursdays and as a result up to and including the 9th of April the following service alterations will apply:
- 07:20hrs and 10:15hrs Dublin Heuston to Waterford will terminate at Kilkenny, with bus transfers from Kilkenny to Thomastown and Waterford
- 11:00hrs and 13:05hrs Waterford to Dublin Heuston advanced to 10:45hrs and 12:50hrs respectively, and will have bus transfers from Waterford and Thomastown to Kilkenny, and train from Kilkenny to Heuston
- 09:45hrs Limerick Junction to Waterford will terminate at Carrick-on-Suir with bus transfer from Carrick-on-Suir to Waterford
Only two of eight services each way daily between Waterford and Dublin are affected Mondays to Thursdays, and weekends are unaffected.
Stay tuned to hear from a spokesperson later.
