The family of a Polish cyclist who died in a road crash locally last month say they’re deeply touched by the solidarity shown by the people of Kilkenny.
Damian Wrobel was cycling on the Tullaroan Road close to the city centre when he was in collision with a car.
A cremation service has already taken place and his Funeral Mass goes ahead tomorrow (Tuesday, 14th July) evening at St John’s Church with his ashes to be returned to his hometown.
Yesterday in memory of Damian a silent cycle on city streets was organised by Kilkenny Cycling Campaign and was attended by his brother Robert and his children Wiktoria and David who told participants they had endured two devastating years having already lost Damian’s Mother, an Uncle and another Brother.
They said “Thank you for remembering Damian, and for standing with us, this means so much after all we have been through”.
Kilkenny Cycling Campaign Chairperson Liviu Iftime thanked everyone who joined the silent cycle, attended the gathering, or donated. “We came together not just to honour Damian, but to demand the safe cycling infrastructure every person in Kilkenny deserves,” he said.
Funds raised will go to his five-year-old daughter who remains in his native Poland – donations can still be made via the official fundraising page, a link to which you’ll find here.
