A Carlow Kilkenny Fianna Fáil TD is the latest to call for a party meeting.
It follows yesterday’s letter by the party’s youngest deputies criticising the coalition’s response to the fuel protests reflects the views of the parliamentary party and the wider organisation – Ryan O’Meara of Tipperary North/North West Kilkenny with James O’Connor and Albert Dolan had issued the joint statement as leader Micheál Martin also faces renewed pressure from his backbenchers over the handling of last week’s protests.
Members are calling for an urgent parliamentary party meeting to discuss the party’s leadership to try and restore trust in Fianna Fáil – former Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl, TD Paudie O’Sullivan and Senator Anne Rabbitte have written to the party chair asking for an urgent meeting to be convened.
Local TD John McGuinness says there needs to be urgent action, noting; “I think that they have reflected the view of the Parliamentary Party generally and indeed of the Fianna Fail organisation and we should now as a party act on it, have a meeting and discuss what happened over the last few weeks in the context of the protests”.
He adds; “The direction of the Government has not been dealt with so the finger of blame if you like is pointed fairly and squarely at the Cabinet and those that represented the Cabinet in public discourse did not do so in a way that recognised the legitimate efforts of people at a local level to get their point across”.
Deputy McGuinness is due on The KCLR Daily this Friday (10am-1pm, 17th April).
Mooncoin based Maria Wall is National Vice President and Policy Director of Ógra Fianna Fáil believes there are issues to be addressed but that the current party leader will likely remain in the role as she’s been telling The KCLR Daily;
