Ronan Maher, Captain of the Tipperary senior hurling team, recently joined the KCLR Hurling Podcast to discuss a range of topics, including last season’s performances, the pride of being named Tipperary’s captain, and the upcoming clash with Kilkenny.
Reflecting on his role as captain, Maher emphasized how much the position means to him and his commitment to pushing the team forward.
“I’ve been really privileged to take on that role the last two years. It’s not something that’s handed out to everybody and it’s something that I really appreciate. My focus is always on Tipperary and driving this team to the best of my ability”.
Looking back on Tipperary’s performance in the previous season, Maher was quick to acknowledge the team’s shortcomings and need for improvement.
“Last year it didn’t go too well. Our performances were really below par and in Munster, you can’t afford to have any below-par performances. It’s about really driving standards and keeping everyone accountable within the set-up”.
As Tipperary prepares to face Kilkenny this weekend, Maher highlighted the longstanding rivalry between the two sides and the team’s approach to the game.
“Always a big rivalry between Tipp and Kilkenny. We’ll be looking to take to the field at the weekend and focus on ourselves, get a good solid performance and hopefully the result goes our way”.
