The President of the Irish Farmers’ Association will pass through County Carlow today as part of his tractor journey from Dublin to Brussels for a major European protest.
Laois man Francie Gorman is travelling with his 11-year-old son Tom to highlight concerns over the future of farming, including the CAP budget, trade deals and rising costs.
The convoy takes in Naas, Crookstown, Tullow, Bunclody and Enniscorthy Mart on its way to Rosslare.
They’ll arrive in Dunkirk on Tuesday night and will travel from Dunkirk to Brussels on Wednesday.
Francie addressed farmers’ at the last march in Brussels in July and says it has far reaching consequences noting; “Back home in Ireland 130,000 farm families and millions of farm families across Europe, millions and millions of jobs in the rural sector so the message to you at the top of that building behind us is “Get off your high horse, come down and engage with us and deliver a CAP reform that’s going to support this generation of farmers and by doing that you supporting the next generation of farmers”.
