The heatwave has officially come to an end across much of the country.
While it was another hot day in the south and southeast yesterday, temperatures elsewhere failed to climb above the official heatwave threshold of 25 degrees celsius.
This means the long-standing 14-day record, set at Moorepark in County Cork back in August 1976, was not matched.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says that temperatures will continue to gradually drop in the days ahead.
“Moore Park in County Cork recorded 13 days, making it the second-longest running heatwave ever in the history of records in Ireland, beating the previous second-place record of 12 days from 2018 at Kilkenny.” said Alan.
