Carlow’s trip to Newbridge on Sunday ended in defeat as Kildare secured victory in their Allianz Hurling League Division 1B clash.
Scores from Daire Guerin, Cathal McCabe and Muiris Curtin helped seal the win for the Kildare Senior Hurling Team, who are the current Joe McDonagh Cup champions.
The result secures Kildare’s Division 1B status for 2027 and leaves Carlow facing the likelihood of relegation to Division 2.
After the game, Carlow manager Pat Bennett said the situation also presents an opportunity to develop younger players and give them valuable game time.
“That’s the problem you have with teams like Carlow, Westmeath and Laois — you go up and you come straight back down. You don’t get a chance to consolidate and go hurling up there.
Is it the end of the world if we go down to the next division? No. We have young fellas that we need to play and give game time. Hopefully they’ll get that game time in that league and if we’re good enough we’ll come back up.”
All the reaction from the game and the rest of the weekend’s action is covered in the latest edition of the KCLR Hurling Podcast.
