St. Lachtain’s booked their spot in the AIB Leinster Club Junior Hurling Final with an emphatic 4-18 to 0-11 victory over Avondale. The Freshford side delivered a dominant performance to secure their place in the final, scheduled for Sunday week.
Shane Donnelly, who contributed 1-3 to the tally, spoke to KCLR after the game, highlighting the excitement in the community:
“Once we won the county final, our aim was Leinster, then the All-Ireland. There’s just a buzz around the town. Any team as the county finalist is the same—it’s a cliché, but it’s true. There’s bunting up, everyone’s in good form, and it gives people something to talk about for the winter. It shortens the winter for everyone.”
Donnelly also looked ahead to the decider, remaining focused but unfazed by their potential opponents:
“Whoever it is, it is. We won’t be too worried, but we’ll have a look at it next weekend.”
St. Lachtain’s will face the winner of next weekend’s semi-final between St. Fechin’s (Louth) and Castletown Liam Mellows (Wexford), which takes place at the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
