Speaking to KCLR after the match, Carlow manager Shane Curran reflected on the difficult conditions and how Wexford’s ability to adapt to the wind and fog gave them the edge.
“It was a difficult night, difficult conditions no getting away from that. Wexford adapted probably better than we did, and looking at them, they were probably that little bit more physical than we were. A drier day maybe with a drier sod, you would have had a different game of football”.
The Carlow manager reflected on his teams’ second-half performance, highlighting the positives they could take from it while acknowledging the need for greater consistency.
“The attitude is right, that’s a great starting point, it’s a good building block and we can’t fault the lads for that. They gave an incredible effort in the second half, but there are learnings to take from it. The learnings are you have to score when you’re on top, and you’ve got to take your chances”.
Carlow will head into their next match against Limerick without captain Mikey Bambrick, who saw red in the dying moments of the game- a decision Shane Curran felt was too harsh.
“There wasn’t a lot in it really. The Wexford player probably made the most of it, he got up very quickly. It looked worse from where the referee was than from where the linesman was. It’s probably rough play and a yellow card. It is worth an appeal and I’m sure we’ll take a look at it”.
