Bennekerry/Tinryland are basking in the glory of their historic AIB All-Ireland Intermediate title after defeating Annaghdown in Saturday’s final at Croke Park. The Carlow champions delivered a superb performance to secure a 2-10 to 1-7 victory and claim national honours.
The celebrations continued late into the night, as the team was welcomed home by a massive crowd, marking a proud moment for the local community.
Speaking after the win, captain Shannon Cotter reflected on the incredible achievement and the honor of leading her team to victory. “It’s a feeling that I can’t describe, and I’m so honoured and privileged to be captain of that team,” she said.
Cotter was quick to praise the leadership qualities throughout the squad, emphasizing the collective effort behind their success. “There’s some amount of leaders on that team. From 1 to 15 could have been the captain, and probably more on the sub-bench,” she said.
“To have that honour and that privilege put on me and to be allowed to speak in front of a crowd at Croke Park, it’s something I never dreamed of. It’s unbelievable,” she added.
With the title secured, this triumph will remain a cherished moment in the history of Bennekerry/Tinryland and a source of inspiration for the club and its supporters for years to come.
