This Saturday, Carlow’s Bennekerry/Tinryland Ladies will step onto the hallowed turf of Croke Park as they take on Annaghdown from Galway in the AIB All-Ireland Ladies Club Final at 3:00 PM.
The stakes couldn’t be higher for the Carlow champions as they aim to etch their names into the history books.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of the final, Bennekerry/Tinryland manager Chris Townsend shared his thoughts on the role the iconic venue might play in shaping the game.
“It always does look like a huge pitch on the TV,” Townsend remarked, “but I suppose we’re lucky in terms of our own pitch—it’s a sizable pitch as well. It does help a team that tries to play attacking football, in terms of getting your creative players on the field.
“Also, you know, you’ll have to be mindful. If you come up against whatever type of team, you’ll have to obviously work to your strengths. That’s all we try to do. Every week it’s just, work to our strengths, keep it simple.”
Bennekerry/Tinryland’s expansive style of play and attacking flair have been key to their journey to the final, and Townsend’s confidence in his players reflects a belief that they can rise to the occasion under the bright lights of GAA HQ.
The game will be broadcast live on KCLR, with coverage proudly sponsored by Dan Morrissey & Co, allowing Carlow fans to follow the action as it unfolds.
