After years of ongoing representations, the Council is finally set to begin the engineering report needed for the safe removal of the wall at the O’Loughlin Road railway bridge, a spot long regarded as treacherous for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The wall, which obstructs visibility at a critical point on O’Loughlin Road, has been a source of concern for years, as its position makes it difficult for drivers to safely navigate the area. The removal of the wall is expected to significantly improve visibility and, as a result, enhance safety for all those who use the road.
The campaign to have the wall removed began many years ago by the late Michael McGuinness, a passionate advocate for local safety. His son, Cllr. Eugene McGuinness, has continued to champion the cause, pushing for the removal of the wall and improvements to the dangerous spot.
In an interview with KCLR News, Cllr. McGuinness expressed his relief at the progress, stating that he has received a guarantee that the much-needed engineering assessment will commence in the coming weeks.
