A Kilkenny councillor’s calling on the county council for a full review of recently implemented parking changes in the city.
A 15-minute free set-down period was removed while a cap was placed on the amount of time one could spend in certain disabled bays while some charges were also tweaked.
Some traders and customers have hit out at the move, saying an impact’s been obvious to many.
Eugene McGuinness is tabling a motion for the city municipal district meeting seeking a date.
Meanwhile, at the November municipal meeting a proposal was put forward by Cllr Andrew McGuinness and agreed by all that a parking solution would be brought forward to facilitate cheap all day parking fir city Centre employees.
And a statement’s been issued to KCLR News this morning on behalf of Mayor Joe Malone:
“A proposal to amend the new parking arrangements is already being put forward according to Mayor Joe Malone.
Mayor Malone facilitated a meeting with local business groups a number of weeks ago where it was agreed that a proposal to make a number of amendments to the new parking arrangements and includes the reinstatement of the 15 minute free parking.
The wording of the proposal was then agreed with the business group and the Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael groups. As whip of the Fianna Fail group, Cllr Andrew McGuinness then informed Tim Butler that this proposal would be brought forward. This was all done prior to St Patrick’s Day and nothing to do with any other proposal from an elected member that has come about since.
Mayor Malone said, “a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes regarding the changes to parking arrangements in the city. It is already being brought forward and agreements have been reached between the local business group and the elected members of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael weeks ago. It would be great if all 7 members supported this proposal unanimously and they are invited to have their names to this proposal.”
