Kilkenny Vintners’ President, Pat Crotty, welcomes plans to lift Good Friday ban on alcohol

The lift on selling alcohol on Good Friday will apply to all premises from next year.

Minister Frances Fitzgerald will ask her Cabinet colleagues to consider amendments to ensure the rule will also apply for restaurants clubs and hotels.

The Tánaiste had already announced that the Government would not stand in the way of a Private Member’s Bill, brought forward by Senator Billy Lawless, aimed at abolishing the 90-year-old ban for pubs and off-licences.

Kilkenny publican and President of the Vintners’ Federation Pat Crotty told KCLR Live today it’s puzzling as to why it has taken so long.
