LISTEN: St Clare’s Soup Kitchen in Carlow open two years

The demand is there but money is the only thing preventing a local soup kitchen from opening their doors five days a week.
At the moment St Clare’s Soup Kitchen in Carlow feeds a large number of people every afternoon, Mondays to Thursdays.
Fr John Dunphy was one of the driving forces behind the opening of the facility two years ago, which at times has provided dinners for 130 people per day.
He says they’ve never been able to get any funding from the government and an EU Feed Grant is the only helping-hand they get.
However, speaking to KCLR’s MaryAnn Vaughan, he says they still have plans to broaden the services they offer this year, including opening on Fridays.
