We’re into what’s set to be the worst of the cold weather locally.
The latest Orange Low Temperature warning took effect at 6pm this (Wednesday) evening and continues to 11am Thursday.
This will revert to a Yellow notice which runs to midday Friday.
County council crews will be out yet again in both counties and if you need assistance in Kilkenny call 056 7794145 (9am-5pm) or 0818 399 399 (out-of-hours), while for Carlow it’s 059 9170302.

- An Post, High Street, Kilkenny will open 10am to 4pm Thurs and 9am to 4pm Friday. While overall, the organisation says it’ll attempt letter and parcel deliveries wherever it is safe to do so. While road conditions have worsened in many areas as result of the low temperatures, ice and fog While more delivery routes are at least partially accessible today, many parts of Tipperary, Kilkenny, North Kerry, Limerick and Waterford remain inaccessible. As deliveries are attempted in the worst affected areas, An Post delivery staff will check in on customers living alone or in isolated areas, and will encourage anyone in need of assistance to call ALONE’s national contact number (0818 222 024).
- Bank of Ireland branches in both Carlow and Kilkenny will close at 3:30pm today
- Carlow Day Care Centre, Askea closed Thurs & Fri, hoping to reopen next Monday
- Carlow Library Service: Tullow & Bagenalstown open as usual, Carlow town has no late opening this evening while in Borris the my open library service is in operation
- Castlecomer Credit Union has revised openig hours for rest of week
- Castlecomer Discovery Park ask that you please stay away from their woodland until their maintenance team have made the paths safe
