Carlow and Kilkenny appear to be escaping the worst of the weather so far.
Both counties, with the rest of the country, are under at Status Yellow Wind Warning since midnight – it continues to 6 o’clock this (Thursday) evening.
21 others have also been hit with a rain notice.
No major weather-related issues have been reported so far but caution’s still advised.
Met Éireann’s forecasting a windy day which is set to become wet with rain spreading from the west this morning and turning heavy at times with spot flooding possible. The rain will gradually clear southeastwards this afternoon and evening and it will turn colder with showers following.
Afternoon highs of 7 to 12 degrees are expected, coldest in the northwest of the region.
Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly has this advice for those travelling today; “The winds will change a little bit and switch to more strongest gusts in the south and the east later this afternoon before only slowly easing, it will be challenging travelling conditions at times given the fact that there will be a combination of heavy rain and strong winds so you will want to take time and there will also be some spot flooding in areas, especially where the heaviest of the rain is to fall in the west and northwest”.
