Nurses at St Luke’s and other hospitals will be balloted for industrial action today.
The local hospital has been under sustained pressure in recent weeks with management reporting a surge in numbers attending the emergency department.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says overcrowding has gone too far – and the safety of both nurses and patients is being compromised on a daily basis.
The organisation claims today’s ballot could lead to an all out strike in the run up to Christmas.
