Carlow–Kilkenny TD Jennifer Murnane O’Connor says parents are rightly “very annoyed” over the recent controversy surrounding Special Needs Assistants.
A review by the National Council for Special Education had led to almost 200 schools being told their SNA allocation would be reduced next September — a decision that has since been reversed by the coalition Government.
Deputy Murnane O’Connor says she has been meeting families and visiting schools, and has confirmed there will be no reduction in Special Needs Assistants in local schools this year.
“The stress of it and I can only highlight the SNAs and the importance of their jobs and their professions and what they do, they excel.” said the local TD.
“So, as you know, there’s going to be no reductions for this year, there’s a review going on and it’s going to be a child centred review and that would be very important, and an extra 19 million euro has now has been allocated into this area.” she added.
