Residents of a Mooncoin housing estate say they feel Kilkenny County Council have “washed their hands of them”.
Pollrone Green was built in 2008 as an eco-friendly council housing estate with a wood pellet heating system installed to heat each house.
However residents say that the heating is constantly breaking down leaving the entire house cold and they say the council refuse to help them.
Anthony Quinn spoke to KCLR’s The Way It Is last night and he says they’ve lodged numerous complaints.
Meanwhile Mooncoin Councillor Pat Dunphy says he has also found it difficult to get any response from the housing sector of the council on the issue.
He told KCLR that he’s been hearing about that and other issues with houses in that estate for years.
In a statement to KCLR the council has acknowledged there are issues with some of the units installed but says it has always responded to complaints received using the services of an external specialist contractor to carry out repair works.
However it says with very few specialists in this area that repairs may not always be dealt with as quickly as they would like.
