A smaller number of businesses in Kilkenny are in arrears when it comes to rates than just about every other county in the country.
That’s one of a number of points outlined in the National Oversight and Audit Committee’s latest annual report.
Kilkenny County Council have the second-highest collection level for commercial rates out of all local authorities.
The National Oversight and Audit Committee has published it’s full report into the local council for the year 2016 and is highlighting three areas Kilkenny needs to focus on for this year.
They’ll be trying to reduce the average cost to repair and maintain local authority houses, which currently stands at €1,300 per house compared to an average of €969 for the other councils.
They will also be trying to increase the number of households availing of a 3 bin service in the county from just under 7% because the national average is way higher at 38%.
And they are now going to look into how the cost of running Dunmore Civic Amenity Centre can be reduced.
The council says they’ll continue to review the performance of their organisation and try to make improvements.
