Henry Shefflin’s Kilkenny senior hurling management team has been formally ratified at this evening’s August meeting of the Kilkenny County Board.

Delegates approved the management structure that will work alongside the newly appointed senior manager for the season ahead.

The team comprises:

  • David Herity (Dunnamaggin) – Head Coach/Selector
  • PJ Delaney (Johnstown) – Coach/Selector
  • David Mulcahy (James Stephens) – Selector
  • Darragh Mulcahy – Head of Strength & Conditioning

Following last weekend’s clash between Ballyhale and O’Loughlin Gaels, former Kilkenny star Richie Power spoke to KCLR and shared his thoughts on the newly confirmed management team.

Power believes it was only a matter of time before Shefflin took charge of the county and sees the addition of former Kilkenny goalkeeper David Herity as a major positive.

“It is great to see him over it, it was only a matter of time before he did get the job. Bringing David Herity with him is a huge plus.

“I have heard nothing but positive things coming out of Tipperary about David and the impact he has had there. You would be hoping he brings that same energy and workrate to Kilkenny and I’m sure he will.”

Power acknowledges that Shefflin faces a significant challenge, with Kilkenny’s 2026 championship campaign ending earlier than supporters would have hoped.

“It’s a big challenge, no point in saying any different. Where we finished up this year is not where Kilkenny supporters want to see that team. There is probably a lot of work to be done.”

Power also hopes Shefflin and his team can freshen up the panel and bring new players into the setup.

“Hopefully there is fresh players and fresh faces they can bring into the set-up to try reinvigorate things.”

The formal ratification completes the approval of Shefflin’s management structure as he prepares to begin his first season in charge of the Kilkenny senior hurlers.

Kilkenny GAA has wished Henry Shefflin and his management team the very best for the season ahead.
