Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for several counties in the South East, including Carlow and Kilkenny, this morning.
The warning is in effect due to strong gusts and heavy rainfall expected to affect the region, creating hazardous travel conditions for motorists.
People in the affected areas are being advised to take extra care when traveling, as the combination of wind and rain could make roads slippery and visibility poor.
Speaking to KCLR News, Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather provided an update on the conditions expected throughout the morning. “We’re looking at a period of very wet and windy weather, with strong winds and heavy rainfall,” O’Reilly explained. “However, these conditions should not be long-lasting, and the worst of it will likely pass relatively quickly.”
Motorists are being advised to reduce speed, increase their following distance, and be mindful of sudden gusts and potential flooding, particularly on low-lying roads and areas prone to surface water.
