Students at SETU Carlow and Carlow College St Patrick’s are set to take part in a walkout this morning.
It’s part of nationwide action organised by the Union of Students in Ireland and takes place at 11 minutes past 11 in protest of the cost-of-living crisis.
They are calling on the government to prioritise the cost of third-level education and the effects of rising inflation.
Beth O’Reilly, President of the USI, says students want to show that they have had enough;
“This protest is intended to show the force of the student movement, it’s intended to show the mass of the student movement and really remobilise students after so many years of kinda been left by the wayside, we want to show that we’re not taking these issues sitting down and that the government needs to start prioritising the cost of living, the cost of college and the cost of accommodation and tackling the issues at the root”.
