An overnight ice warning has now expired for Carlow and Kilkenny.
Motorists are asked to extra take care on the roads this morning as temperatures dipped to as low as minus 6 in parts on Kilkenny and minus 5 in Carlow overnight.
Much of the country can expect further heavy downpours today as a status yellow rainfall alerts will come into effect for 10 counties at midday.
There’s also a snow warning across western and north-western counties.
Mark Bowe, forecaster with Met Eireann, says there’s no escaping the rain just yet:
“We’re going to see the heaviest rain across Cork and Kerry and then we’re going to see some significant travel disruption from the rain falling as sleet and snow across Connaught and across parts of Ulster as well.”
“Now while those counties in the West are affected by the warnings, the rain will spread throughout the country and come widespread for time, so we’re all going to get a splash of this front as it passes over.”
