The GPA has paid tribute to two of Carlow’s finest, Jack Kavanagh and Conor Lawlor, following the announcement of their retirements from inter-county action.
“Best wishes to Carlow pair Jack Kavanagh and Conor Lawlor in their inter-county retirement,” the statement read. “Jack made 142 appearances for his county, while Conor played 110 times across both codes. Jack was instrumental in winning the Christy Ring Cup and two Joe McDonagh Cups, while Conor also contributed to the success of the 2023 Joe McDonagh campaign. Wishing you both all the best for the future.”
Conor Lawlor, a former dual player, leaves the Carlow setup after 110 games split between hurling and football with the news breaking earlier in the year. His accolades include promotion to Division 3 football and the Joe McDonagh.
Of course who could forget that day against Carlow.
Jack Kavanagh, meanwhile, steps away after a career spanning over 140 senior appearances in the red, green, and yellow. A cornerstone of Carlow hurling for more than a decade, Kavanagh was central to the county’s Christy Ring and Joe McDonagh Cup successes. The Kavanagh name remains prominent, with his brother Marty now co-captaining the team.
