What has been described as ‘massive stockpiles of waste’ were discovered on lands in the Threecastles area and the case taken was finalised at Kilkenny District Court in November, 2024, with the court ordering a charitable contribution be made as part of the outcome.
Kikenny County Council’s Environment Department’s confirmed that Keep Kilkenny Beautiful has been granted €10,000 with €5,000 each for Cois Nore and Amber Women’s Refuge.
A spokesperson says; “These organisations provide vital services across the county, including community development, environmental enhancement, and essential supports for vulnerable individuals and families”.
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Mary Hilda Cavanagh stated: “Kilkenny County Council is committed to robust enforcement of environmental legislation to protect public health and the environment. It is particularly positive that, in this instance, the outcome of the prosecution will directly benefit local community and voluntary organisations delivering important services on the ground.”
The Council noted that illegal waste activity poses serious risks to the environment and communities, and enforcement actions will continue to be pursued where breaches are identified.
