The construction project to extend and widen the runway at Waterford Airport is about to enter its seventh week, with hopes high that commercial flights will return to the region in 2027.
Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, who made the airport’s reopening a priority during her European Election campaign, visited Waterford Airport earlier this week.
During her visit, the Fianna Fáil MEP met with Waterford Airport Director William Bolster, who brought her up to date with the latest developments.
“Look, there’s lots of work to be done, but I’ll tell you there’s great ambition there, and there’s great intent and great energy on the part of the airport executive. The airport is aiming to handle 400,000 passengers annually by 2029, and there’s a real sense at the moment that this goal will be achieved, and I hope to assist them in whatever way I can as a member of the Transport Committee in Europe, because our regional airports are so important for regional growth.” said William.
