Dunnes Stores has yet to make formal contact with Kilkenny County Council after Waterford City and County Council withdrew its pursuit of a judicial review into the planning permission the Kilkenny authority granted to a parent company of Dunnes to redevelop the Ferrybank Shopping Centre.
This news was disclosed at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Piltown Municipal District which was held in Ferrybank Library, one of the few sections of the €100 million building which has been put into active use since it was built in 2008.
The withdrawn legal action has come at a cost to Waterford City and County Council, which will now foot the bill for not only its own legal costs, but also those incurred by both Kilkenny County Council and Dunnes’ parent company.
Kilkenny County Council has confirmed to KCLR News that its legal bill alone amounts to €149,000, while costs for the other parties have yet to be publicly disclosed.
Following yesterday’s meeting, KCLR News got reaction to the most recent developments in the saga from Waterford City Councillor Eamon Quinlan (FF), part of whose Municipal District includes the Waterford section of Ferrybank. Cllr Quinlan was among those Waterford representatives who opposed the judicial review from the outset of the process.
