Bennekerry Tinryland became the first Carlow ladies’ football club to reach an All-Ireland Club Final on Saturday, securing their place in history with a thrilling victory over Mulahoran GFC.
The Carlow champions found the back of the net four times, holding on for a three-point win that will see them face Annaghdown of Galway in the AIB Intermediate Club All-Ireland Final.
Speaking to KCLR after the game, Sinead Hayden of Bennekerry Tinryland reflected on the emotional and historic moment for her team.
“It’s hard to put into words at the minute, probably speechless,” Hayden said. “We came up here, we knew we had a good chance, but we knew it was all to play for. It’s surreal, to be honest. I wouldn’t want to do it with any other bunch of girls. The team is so close, and we could dream about this, these things happening, but we never thought it would come true.”
The victory has sparked immense pride across Carlow, as the team prepares for the biggest game in their club’s history. KCLR will provide live coverage of the All-Ireland final, where Bennekerry Tinryland will take on Annaghdown in what promises to be an unforgettable contest.
For now, the team can savor the moment and celebrate an achievement that has not only made club history but also inspired their community and county.
