Carlow’s hurlers made history on Sunday, securing their first-ever competitive victory over Waterford with a thrilling 2-21 to 1-19 win at Netwatch Cullen Park in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B.
The result moves Tom Mullally’s side to three points from a possible four, but they now face a lengthy break before their next outing on February 23rd.
Reflecting on the significance of the victory, Carlow captain Marty Kavanagh emphasized the importance of breaking past struggles and building belief within the squad:
“We’re back ourselves big-time, and we’ve really got hurlers here, but we’ve been in that position a good bit in the last maybe five, six years, against a big team, in a good position at half-time when we fell away. So that’s massive for us getting over the line there, and it gives us belief now.”
The win against a highly-rated Waterford side reinforces Carlow’s progress under Mullally and serves as a confidence booster ahead of their upcoming fixtures. While the break may disrupt momentum, Kavanagh and his teammates are determined to keep their focus on long-term goals for the campaign.
