St. Lachtain’s manager Steven Farrell says his side is “back in the groove” following their recent county final victory, as they set their sights on the next round of the AIB Leinster Junior Club Championship in Dublin this Saturday.
Freshford’s St. Lachtain’s secured a nine-point win over Offaly’s Drumcullen in their championship opener on Sunday, just a week after capturing the Kilkenny Junior County title. Speaking with KCLR’s Adrian Ronan, Farrell shared his pride in the team’s momentum and dedication.
“They’re in the field like Wednesday night,” Farrell said. “We were treading Wednesday night when we got back, but I have to say the atmosphere was great. The smiles on faces and the boys just dug into it. Few lads shook, but it was great. They’re a great bunch of lads, and they really want this — they really want to bring smiles to people’s faces and the parish, and that’s what it’s all about. That’s what sport’s all about, and we’re just delighted.”
Reflecting on the excitement around their county win, Farrell acknowledged the celebrations were well-deserved. But with a new challenge ahead, the focus is now firmly on Dublin. “The heights that the boys reached last week, the few days they had deservedly celebrating… it was all about probably getting over the line. We’re back in the groove now, we’re back in training, and heads are focused again. We look forward to the challenge in Dublin next Saturday.”
With the team energized and community support strong, St. Lachtain’s heads into Saturday’s game against Crumlin ready to build on their recent success and take on the provincial stage.
