Storm Dave is expected to intensify through the course of the day, as the entire country falls under a status yellow wind warning from 1 o’clock this afternoon.
It’s set to remain in place until 2 o’clock tomorrow morning.
A status yellow rain warning has also been issued for Donegal and Mayo until 4 o’clock this afternoon.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says there could be flooding in coastal areas:
“There will be rain early on Saturday and some more on Saturday afternoon with some heavy showers but overall rainfall amounts will generally not be an issue for most areas but there is a risk of coastal flooding because of high spring tides and onshore winds so some coastal flooding is possible.”
Drivers are being warned of the increased risks this weekend.
Met Eireann says Storm Dave will bring strong gusts and is likely to lead to debris and fallen trees on the roads.
While the Road Safety Authority is urging motorists to put away their phones and not to drink and drive over the Easter bank holiday.
RSA spokesperson Alison Coleman has this advice for pedestrians:
“For all of us who enjoy walking, wear your high visibility coating, be visible to others when you’re out on about on a rural road, just make sure that you carry a torch in case your walk goes on that little bit longer than you’d anticipated. Please everyone keep each other safe.”
