There are 1707 new families in Carlow and Kilkenny since the last census in 2011.
That’s according to figures from the Central Statistics Offices which found overall there are 1.2 million families in the country.
On the night of the census in 2016, there were 26 thousand families in Kilkenny, which is over a thousand more than back in 2011.
In Carlow that figure was just under 15,000, again, an increase of 670 on 2011.
The number of divorcees in Kilkenny was up as well to 2’020 and it was 1’360 in Carlow.
In terms of same sex civil partnerships, there were 62 in Kilkenny and 29 in Carlow with the national figure at 4’200.
The figures also recorded those living alone, and found Carlows increased by 452 in five years and it was 344 in Kilkenny, in both counties, women accounted for over 60 per cent of the figures.
