A number of local soldiers are preparing for their deployment to Syria.
The 59th Infantry Group based in the Curragh, will form a Quick Reaction Force which is a small, highly mobile force that can respond immediately to emergencies.

The troops are being reviewed this morning by the Minister for Defence.
There are two members from Kilkenny and six from Carlow.
