A new monument to White House designer will be erected in Callan

Another monument to the local man who designed the White House is to erected – in Callan this time.

The James Hoban Memorial Society will fund it completely and will travel over from Washington for its unveiling this summer.

The sculpture work is being carried out by local company Molloys in Callan and the monument, when complete, will be installed in Green Street in the town.

There’s already a monument at his homeplace in Desart but local councillor Matt Doran told KCLR news they were eager to get one installed in Callan too.

Councillor Doran says plans are also in place for a James Hoban summer school.
