The Clinical Director of St Luke’s Hospital says the majority of people in Carlow and Kilkenny already have a 24/7 cardiac care service.
Professor Gary Courtney was speaking following widespread calls for a permanent cardiac service in the Waterford area.
Last weekend a Waterford man died as he was being transferred to Cork, and since then there’s been much outrage from local politicians that there’s still only a 9am to 5pm service in Waterford.
However, Professor Courtney told KCLR’s The Way It Is last night that for Carlow and most of Kilkenny heart patients go to St James’ in Dublin.
