A Carlow councillor is looking for a list to be put together of vacant houses in the county that are suitable for living in.
Fergal Browne says in particular houses in the town need to be looked at because he says the uptake for the government’s ‘repair and lease scheme’ hasn’t been as strong as it could be.
He’s raising the matter at this week’s municipal district meeting.
And he told KCLR News, that given the fact there’s a housing crisis, the council should be taking a more proactive approach.
He says it’s “very frustrating” walking around as a Councillor and seeing vacant properties around Carlow, that wouldn’t take much work to restore.
Councillor Browne will also seek clarification on how many properties are owned by the Council already, that have yet to be restored.
