Hundreds gathered in Kilkenny Castle last night to honour the newest Freeman of Kilkenny City, Eddie Keher.
Family, friends, teamates and admirers of the former Kilkenny hurler all turned out to see him receive the special recognition from the city.
Among those in attendance was veteran commentator, Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
He told KCLR News it was always fantastic to watch Eddie play:
“I don’t think the man ever played a poor game. I know several people that went to matches, not to the match but to see Eddie Keher – they hadn’t seen him before but they’d heard so much.
“I didn’t hear anyone coming back disappointed. He always produced the goods every day over a long career.
“There are few like him. His name is mentioned with Ring always and [Christy] Ring was a god. So to be in that league you have to be the best.”
