The Beast From The East has landed.
If the weather plays out as has been reported so far this week, Tuesday night’s snowfall is the first of more expected to hit Kilkenny and Carlow.
The majority of schools across both counties are closed today due to adverse weather conditions. While a status yellow warning remains in place in Kilkenny, and status orange in Carlow, a status red warning would lead to widespread closures.
St. Luke’s General Hospital have cancelled outpatient and non-urgent appointments from Wednesday afternoon through Friday with Ante Natal and Gynaecological clinics also suspended.
Local recycling centres in Kilkenny and Carlow along with the Citizens Information Services for both counties are also closed for the remainder of the week, reopening on Monday.

Warnings on Travel
With bus services already running on restricted routes and number of flights cancelled out of Dublin Airport, those planning to travel are advised to check ahead with their travel agent or tour operator.
Local Gardai have been advising against any unnecessary travel as road conditions worsen across Carlow and Kilkenny. Local authorities have been gritting and salting priority one and two routes since the early hours of the morning though further snowfall is expected.
